An excellent record of exam success as a teacher and tutor, up to Oxbridge entry level, I understand how to get the best from young people. Warm, friendly and adaptable I have worked with students to overcome a range of barriers to learning. Students are individuals and their needs and learning strengths are many and various. I will engage with you and them to establish goals and to develop the skills and knowledge they need to enable them to achieve. I use techniques and resources that have been proven to be effective with the full range of students including those with neurodiverse needs.
There is no guarantee of a top exam grade of course but your teenager will definitely do better with good tutoring. Starting with establishing a clear understanding of the concepts involved, I will show them how to improve their marks to achieve their potential. I will help them to become 'exam savvy' (how to spot the hidden clues in a question) and will talk about 'smart learning' (concentrating on key ideas). The aim is to make sure that lessons suit their particular needs and learning style and that they leave each session feeling better about themselves and what they can do. Building confidence is a key aim. I believe strongly that establishing rapport with the student is a key component of effective tutoring, as well as an in-depth subject knowledge and being able to relate content to real world applications. Hence all of my lessons are bespoke and individually prepared.
I have over 30 years of teaching experience in Physics, Science, Electronics and Maths, covering many iterations of syllabus through all exam boards. I have a good degree in Applied Physics and have been a Head of Physics, an AQA assistant examiner, and a school Pastoral and Safeguarding Lead. I tutor because I enjoy seeing those 'penny drop' moments when a student suddenly 'gets it' and yes, hearing their success stories on results day.
I am fully DBS checked with an enhanced certificate.
